As another weekend dawns, I wanted to share something from The Journey Home with you all:

Of weather and man

“To what level is nature aware of man’s existence?

Trees waver as the sky roils and the ground shakes, yet another storm thunders through.

Clouds form angry shapes as my notebook and I wonder if nature cares that man exists….

Animals know of course, but what about Mother Nature?

Wind, rain and lightning strike with a vengeance, as if divine retribution, cleansing the land of the ills inflicted upon it. And yet the clouds eventually fade, the sun returns and again we have peace….

Without storms would we truly appreciate the sunshine? Maybe war, like storms, is inevitable so we appreciate peace…. But what of karma?

Heavy thoughts… far too heavy to carry this close to Solstice…. The entire world’s been invited to Summer Solstice, a scant thousand will make the journey….

What if though, what if that thousand went back to their corner of the world and shined so bright that they each in turn drew a thousand to them, who one by one stood tall and declared, “I am the lighthouse!” What if?

To be at peace or to become the storm is a choice we all face every moment of every single day. Choose peace and be the lighthouse.

Hello world!

After 27 months in creation, the long awaited sequel to Be the Lighthouse is finally available!

Here’s an excerpt, something I titled, “How many”:

“Sun warms the pavement… soon the desert sands will call us home. Summer Solstice approaches…

Clouds come to hide the sun, a deep rumble shakes the ground, another storm approaches….

Without night we would not know day, but why must we endure war to know peace?

Why did we choose sides and draw lines in the sand?

The sun returns as the peace always does, but at what cost?

How many more wars will we suffer before we know peace?

How many more wars will we survive?

How many more wars until no one is left?

How many?”

What words can express the myriad of feelings as one goes off to war I know not, but pictures do just that….

My friend and his daughter visited Bodega Bay before she returned to the other side of the world… and I realized, I’d never heard of Bodega Bay and that like most of the rest of the planet, I had probably never heard of what town she might be stationed near as she serves her country.

Especially profound as I’m going camping with about 800 friends this Christmas , while she and her fellow soldiers are in Iraq….

I invite you to walk through Bodega Bay with Aliana and her father and to pray, for all the kids to come home.
