Forbidden Cargo (1954)

Filed under: Uncategorized — bethelighthouse @ 4:59 pm

Our vintage/undiscovered white and black film festival continues as we hit the high seas in Forbidden Cargo (1954)!

Plot: “Inspector Michael Kenyon (Nigel Patrick) is a Narcotics Agent who, with the aid of a titled bird-watcher attempts to trap a brother and sister drug smuggling team.”

Cast:
Jack Warner … Maj. Alec White
Nigel Patrick … Insp. Michael Kenyon
Elizabeth Sellars … Rita Compton
Terence Morgan … Roger Compton

With that, let’s get to it!

Hrmm. Climb right over the fence onto the, “Private,” beach. Good thing we don’t know anyone who would do a thing like that lol

Pinky ring.

Aaand, fake scenery, with doubles on location.

Rare/endangered birds nest there making it quite serious indeed.

So naval personnel are involved.

He has the name of the ship, and, it was in the area. The question then is, who, is doing what there? The plot tells us.

Here they come.

I do believe, that’s Joyce Grenfell as the bird watcher Lady Flavia Queensway. She and our lead are fun together. It’s a British film though so anything can happen.

So they’re doing something at an old base, but what?

Into the base we/he goes. What were they hiding?

It’s intriguing, whatever’s going on lol

So, they have military equipment & uniforms & are using 2 decommissioned bases for smuggling. It certainly is different, not to mention compelling.

Another pinky ring.

He had an, “Accident.”

Best of all, it’s quite different, which I love 🙂

So that’s the top billed Warner, though Patrick’s had far more screen time thus far.

So, they take turns reminding/showing one another the little things they keep forgetting & get along like the proverbial old married couple.

You know, I don’t recall ever seeing that in a film before. After watching one another via binoculars, our leading lady swims/scuba dives over to his launch, then literally and physically rocks said launch from below lol

Somber music indeed. How about something lively?

As she says, “Children. Children.”

Another pinky ring.

I’m enjoying this 🙂 it’s holding my attention 🙂

We know what’ll happen here….

Yep. It’s the symbol from the envelope.

Another pinky ring.

It’s too early in the film. I’m guessing they won’t find anything that isn’t supposed to be there.

Oh wow. They even show the ship passing through London Bridge. Very cool.

Drug sniffing dogs would give it away. We can’t have that lol

Ingenious.

Yep.

This is different. I’m impressed.

Because they’re looking inside the ship….

We however have close to 20 minutes remaining….

Double decker bus. Fun.

Hurrah for doing the sensible thing, at last.

It certainly is dark, in the dark lol

Nope.

That as they say is that….

The bird watching lady returns!!!

Well there we go. I’ll just imagine they lived happily ever after ~

I rather enjoyed that 🙂

One of the top comments says, “I don’t care if it’s June, I’m still gonna listen to Christmas music.” 🙂 Well said!

A comment on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFoLkAPauGE says, “Christmas without Bing and Frank is like a day without sunshine.” I couldn’t agree more 🙂

May your days be merry and bright!

I don’t recall ever hearing of/seeing the DVD. I’m going to look for it.

Abraham Hicks – Manifest Infinite Abundance

Filed under: Uncategorized — bethelighthouse @ 6:27 pm

Our impromptu Abraham theme continues with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HW10sPGhycY

The Ojo Caliente story is especially interesting to me, as I’ve spent a great deal of time in the area and it’s a massively popular destination.

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._L._Hunt “H. L. Hunt, was a Texas oil tycoon and Republican political activist. By trading poker winnings for oil rights, he ultimately secured little to much of the East Texas Oil Field, one of the world’s largest oil deposits. From it and his other acquisitions, he accrued a fortune that was among the world’s largest; at the time of his death, he was reputed to have the highest net worth of any individual in the world.” In the vortex indeed.

May you enjoy the material as much as I did and may you have an awesome day. I sure am!!

Slightly Married (1932)

Filed under: Uncategorized — bethelighthouse @ 5:47 pm

In a completely different direction, as our title says, Slightly Married (1932) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMhEnJgOXS0 is up next!

Plot: “Mary Smith is picked up by the police and is about to be sentenced, in night court, to jail for vagrancy. But a stranger, Jimmie Martin, stands up and tells the judge that Mary was waiting for him and they were going to be married. A minister stands up and offers to perform the ceremony.”

Cast:
Evalyn Knapp … Mary Smith
Walter Byron … Jimmie Martin
Marie Prevost … Nellie Gordon
Jason Robards Sr. … Jack Haines

I don’t recall any mention of vagrancy. She was picked up with several working girls and told the judge, she was waiting for her groom to meet her. She said he must have been delayed. It’s at this point that Jimmie speaks up. He’s soaring with Foster Brooks to say the least, but steps forward, never imagining the judge will call their bluff. He does though and they’re wed. She appreciates him getting her out of the jam, but, he really loves her and cares for her deeply. It’s quite the fun and different little picture. It is indeed quite pre-Code. It seems quite tame now, but, in late 1934 it would have been a much different picture.

He takes it quite seriously, though she very much wants him to leave/stay away. He however can’t and is quite drawn to her to say the least. Anyway, I’m 25 minutes in & really enjoying it. Let’s pick it up from there/here.

Enter Robards Sr.

He’s from a well to do family and it doesn’t sit well with them to say the least.

🙂

No. He’s coming back. Told you!!

That face though. Mother was quite unhappy and with that we have shifted into our dark/middle act.

We’ll just call his drinking buddy Foster Brooks because they are both lit. Foster’s too drunk to snap his fingers lol pre-Code indeed.

Oh. This is a twist.

It’s turning into a love triangle….

Yep. He sees them, and goes back into the bar….

But he is coming back/there he is/and there he goes….

Back to the bar. Oh my….

Friend indeed.

You never know what to expect in a Pre-Code film….

I love the vintage style, 2 piece phones with the corded earpiece.

Marjorie again….

So we have another 26 minutes before they pair up correctly.

Now they both have headaches lol it certainly is obvious to us.

Herbert Evans is great as his butler/friend Hodges.

Jack Pennick, in a small role.

Whoa. Surprise.

“No. I love him.” “Oh. That’s awful.” Lol

Marie Prevost is fun as her friend Nellie.

What a fun story 🙂

Nellie’s a friend in the truest sense of the word 🙂

🙂

Time to go to the hospital.

🙂

It’s like Oak Island. Now who’s at the door? Lol

Nellie has the best lines, “These darn men make me sick.” Lol

It certainly is different, and couldn’t have been made once the Code was enforced.

Block the driveway. Nope. Car chase.

As they say, “Follow that car!”

Go Speed Racer go!

And they lived happily ever after. That was different lol

The channel’s https://www.youtube.com/user/PizzaFlix/videos filled with vintage/classic films and if someone doesn’t stop clicking lol with that, we have a theme!!
